ABOUT EMBER PROTECT

EmberProtect is a project created to protect communities from the devastating effects of wildfires using education and early detection. Specifically, we are working to earn FirewiseUSA recognition for neighborhoods in the Sacramento area by guiding residents on home hardening, defensible space creation, and fire-safe landscaping practices. Complementing this is EmberGuard, a hardware prototype that detects wildfires earlier, before flames or smoke are even visible.

EmberGuard uses gas sensors, edge AI, and long-range wireless communication to monitor combustion-related gases. This makes it possible to catch ignition events while they're still containable. Unlike traditional detection systems, EmberGuard works at the ground level, where combustion actually begins. Its distributed sensor network is designed to scale throughout the wildland-urban interface, including neighborhoods, farms, utility corridors, and more.

Together, EmberProtect and EmberGuard reflect our belief that real wildfire resilience requires both informed communities and smarter infrastructure.
